This is done in two ways; as school projects to promote and nurture promotion of local food varieties production among young people championed by girls and 2) and community gardening. We do Capacity building programmes for girls and women’s leadership that tailored around gardening for both participating schools and communities. Programmes on positive female identity building, confidence building leadership. We introduce gardening clubs in schools and community gardens so as to increase access to healthy foods and promote healthy eating habits. We hope to introduce gardening competitions to spur motivation and creativity in regard to utilising space and re-introduction of rare/ near extinct local food varieties.
Creation of Local Food Seed Banks
Seeds are the life of all foods, without seeds, access to and food availability is uncertain. Seed banks and seed sharing foster ubuntu and revive shared community values and development around food. The seed banks are safety nets for ensuring seeds are readily available especially as we confront climate change effects. Local seeds are more resistant to harsh climate, more disease tolerant and contribute to soil conservation. We envision establishment of seed banks and in communities of operation.
Healthy Food Consumption Campaigns
Healthy foods contribute to healthy bodies, minds and soil. To counteract the growing factory based food consumption, we will organise ongoing healthy food campaigns in schools and communities.
Participatory photography and Videography
We envision to use participatory photography and videography as major learning, sharing transfer and storage means of knowledge and skills. This is important for wide sharing of information and storage. In this way we hope to create resource for future learning and reference.
Media Awareness Campaigns
Media (TV.Radio, social media) are proven platforms for transforming behaviour, culture, and attitudes among people. Audacious Africa leverages media platforms for infusing culture that promotes local food varieties production and promotion of healthy food consumption among young people.
